To mark Marc Bloch’s induction into the Panthéon, Montmajour Abbey invites the public to rediscover this great historical figure—a historian and member of the Resistance during World War II—through an exhibition on display in the Treasury.
A leading historian of the 20th century, Marc Bloch profoundly transformed the way we think about history. His work and the themes he explored resonate with the Center for National Monuments’ mission to preserve and promote cultural heritage.
Marc Bloch’s induction into the Panthéon on June 23, 2026, honors both the scholar and the Resistance fighter: a committed intellectual who was convinced that understanding the past is essential to shedding light on the present and defending republican values.
For the Centre des monuments nationaux, it is essential to celebrate, within its network, one of the founders of contemporary history, whose work focused on subjects closely linked to the 110 monuments in the network: the Middle Ages, miracle-working kings, and landscapes, among others.
In Paris, the Panthéon is hosting the exhibition “Marc Bloch: The Spirit of History” from June 24 through December 31.
