“Trenet en passant”, a superb tribute by pianist Guillaume de Chassy and guests André Minvielle and Géraldine Laurent.
When three magicians fuse poetry and improvisation to celebrate the words and music of Charles Trenet… Guillaume de Chassy, eclectic pianist, André Minvielle, generous “vocalchimiste” and Géraldine Laurent, solar saxophonist, form a dream trio in an album released this autumn. The trio reinvents the poetic and musical universe of Charles Trenet. Between tenderness, virtuosity and enchanting rhythms, they will bring the words and melodies of the “Fou chantant” to the Jazz in Arles stage.
The songs of Charles Trénet hold a special place in Guillaume de Chassy’s imagination. They’ve always been with him, and from time to time, they pop up in his concerts like windows opening onto the possibility of escape. The idea of devoting an entire album to them came to the pianist at the same time as a profound need for renewal. And to reshuffle the cards, who better than André Minvielle and Géraldine Laurent? Bringing together three such dissimilar personalities (who had never played together before) was not without danger. But mutual admiration and a shared taste for risk instantly generated a rare creative energy within the trio.
