Starting on Saturday April 4, you’ll be able to discover an exhibition of reproductions of the magnificent Detroit Roma plates by Elene Usdin and Boni. Detroit Roma is a real “coup de coeur” for the bookshop team, just as “René.e au bois dormant”, Elene Usdin’s first comic book, was a few years ago. It’s rare to come across a comic book that’s so precisely written, yet so original, that uses the possibilities of the ninth art with incredible creativity, and yet is so vibrant that it takes us through a thousand emotions. It was therefore very important for us to invite her to the bookshop, and we’d like to thank her warmly for coming.
Elene Usdin will be signing at the bookshop on Saturday April 18 from 5pm.
“Two girls, one road…
Detroit, 2015. Aboard an old Ford Galaxy, two young girls cross America in decline, from North to South. Fleeing their hometown of Detroit, they drive to Rome, Georgia, a pale copy of the ancient city. A road-trip as mysterious as it is imbued with meaning. For Becki, it’s about following the route of the slaves, her ancestors. For Summer, it’s a tribute to the Italian roots of her mother, Gloria. On the road, Becki scratches in her sketchbooks, already blackened by their history, their daily dramas and their chaotic friendship. In the course of sketches, miles swallowed and confidences, the two friends will unravel the family secrets that tied their destinies together, long before they were born.”
Many thanks to Editions Sarbacane, Festival du Dessin and Off du Festival du Dessin for their collaboration.
