When the need for light and gentleness becomes urgent, when the burning desire to escape the world’s heaviness—the cries and tears that cannot be soothed from where I stand—leaves me with a deep sense of sadness, then I look at the blank canvas. A sky appears there, then others, more or less realistic, where color predominates. The world doesn’t change because of it, but perhaps our gaze and our hearts do, just a little.
I am familiar with Jean-Pierre Prophète’s work and know that his landscapes feature magnificent skies, so I challenged him to paint only skies and nothing beneath them—no boat, no house, no bull. Nothing but sky. Well, I think the challenge was a success! Come discover our skies! Pasqui R
Painter from Arles, born in Arles.
My painting is diverse, as I paint according to the inspiration or mood of the moment.
After depicting landscapes of Provence and the Camargue, as well as bullfighting scenes, I currently tend to move away from a classical style to explore other subjects with a more modern and personal expression.
A renewal that sparks a fresh desire.
So,
Painting the sky as the main subject is a new adventure, a different pictorial experience, a new challenge, and a double constraint.
An imposed theme that is far from straightforward and the obligation to have a sufficient number of canvases to exhibit by a given date… In other words, a double whammy for the fiercely independent artist that I am.
But, on the other hand, the sky is the image of purity, serenity, freedom… it’s nice.
And then… exhibiting with Pasqui…
So I said “bingo”…
And I picked up my brushes.
