In November 2024, an underwater archaeological operation conducted in the Étang des Aulnes (a departmental property in the municipality of Saint-Martin-de-Crau) led to the discovery of the wreckage of an Allied Mosquito shot down on May 13, 1944. Having departed from San Severo (Italy) on a photographic reconnaissance mission, the aircraft was intercepted by two German Messerschmitts.
This lecture presents the findings of this historical and archaeological investigation.
