Among them, shorebirds—small wading birds found in wetlands—stand out for their diversity, their varied plumage, and their sometimes discreet behavior. Found in marshes, along the coast, or beside canals, some travel thousands of kilometers each year during their migrations.
The Pont de Gau Ornithological Park offers training sessions dedicated to the observation and identification of shorebirds, tailored to different levels of knowledge.
Two training levels are available:
> Level 1 – Introduction: an introductory course to learn how to spot, observe, and identify shorebirds, discover their distinctive features, and become familiar with the main species. This course is designed for beginners and amateur naturalists wishing to learn the basics of shorebird observation. No prior experience is required.
> Level 2 – Advanced: Designed for those who already have a basic understanding of ornithology, particularly in the observation of shorebirds, this one-day course allows participants to deepen their identification skills and discover a greater diversity of species, especially in the context of post-breeding migration.
Each course alternates between classroom-based theory sessions and hands-on practice on the park’s trails, offering a practical and enriching experience with these birds.
The sessions include walks along well-maintained trails that do not present any significant physical challenges.
