Montmajour Abbey is participating in the 10th edition of the “Dans les bras du Rhône” festival.
On this occasion, discover five thousand years of interaction between humans and water in a remarkable setting. Starting at Montmajour Abbey, a guided tour narrated by two voices will take you through the millennia-old history of the Vallée des Baux and its connections to the Rhône River.
The history of vanished forests, medieval fisheries, and the large-scale draining of marshes and wetlands will provide a better understanding of today’s challenges. Agricultural practices now intersect with the preservation of biodiversity and wetlands; a project to reorganize land use—currently being developed—seeks to redefine the needs and future of water in the valley.
In partnership with the SIVVB and historian Philippe Rigaud.
