In the exhibition “Blockhaus – A Story in Concrete,” photographer Jean-François Rivière shares the discoveries he has made over the years while wandering along the beaches and dunes of the Atlantic coast.
From the Basque Country to Brittany and on to Normandy, he photographs the blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall and ponders their future. What has become of these structures that he used to explore even as a child? How have they withstood the ravages of time and the elements? What changes have they undergone?
Far from being a historical, scholarly, or technical study, this exhibition offers above all a personal photographic perspective, shaped by memories, discoveries, and surprises in the face of these imposing concrete structures that continue to mark the French coastal landscape.
