Synopsis: While a power outage paralyzes the city, Roy Neary, an Indiana cable repairman, sees a flying saucer pass over his car. Four-year-old Barry Guiler, meanwhile, is awakened by the sound of his toys starting up. Around the world, other people witness similarly spectacular and inexplicable events.
