François Hébel, former director of the Rencontres d’Arles, has chosen the forty photos he feels are essential to the photographer’s work. It’s a very personal way of paying tribute to Lucien Clergue’s various themes throughout his career. A retrospective that brings together gypsies, acrobats, the Camargue with its carrion, sand and nudes, not forgetting Cocteau and Picasso, the photographer’s faithful travelling companions.
