Synopsis:
Tara moarta (The Dead Nation) presents a series of photographs taken by photographer Costică Acsinte of the small Romanian town of Slobozia in the 1930s and 1940s. Mainly composed of excerpts from the same period taken from the diary of Romanian Jewish doctor Emil Dorian, the soundtrack tells what the photographs do not show: the rise of anti-Semitism and then the terrible Romanian persecution of Jews, a subject rarely addressed in contemporary Romania.
