At the heart of Marseille’s effervescent gypsy jazz scene, Basilic Swing revisits the great standards of French chanson in concert.
Born under the virtuoso fingers of guitarist Django Reinhardt, gypsy jazz – or French jazz – draws its essence from the rich musical tradition of the itinerant peoples of Eastern Europe. Gipsy musicians have always assimilated and reinvented the music they have encountered along the way, a process sometimes referred to as “manouchisation”.
sometimes called “manouchisation”. This year, with the same approach, Basilic Swing invites you on a musical journey where Gypsy jazz blends with French chanson, for an evening full of swing and emotion. Two guitars, a double bass, a violin and a clarinet take you on a journey to the crossroads of genres. A magical quintet: two guitars, a violin, a double bass and a clarinet, and a perfect understanding between the musicians that charms the audience.
