Sarita Rav, originally from Jaipur, studied classical Indian singing and musicology for 8 years under Sangeeta Arya at the Rajasthan Music Institute, graduating top of her class in 2016. She continues her training at the Kawa Music Center (Jaipur) with her master, Ustad Hameed Khan. In addition to her vocal training, she also holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Hindi arts and literature, and teaches various aspects of North Indian music at the Kawa Cultural Center in Jaipur. She has been working for several years with the Kawa Music label (Jaipur) and performs regularly with master tablist Hameed Khan.
Hameed Khan Kawa is the custodian and ambassador of the ancestral music of Rajasthan. He is a respected tabla player who leads several ensembles, including the Kawa Brass Band and the Musafir ensemble, a rare gathering of Rajasthani musicians from different castes and regions. A few years ago, accompanied by his daughter and son, Hameed Khan founded the trio Kawa Générations.
In 2018, Sarita and Hameed toured France for three months.
Their repertoire is very rich, presenting many facets of Indian music: rāga and mantra (Indian classical music), bhajan (Hindu devotional chant), maand (a form of traditional râjasthânis song, rarely played today), qawwali (Sufi mystical poetry).
