“Arelate, Roman Days in Arles” is a summer event that combines historical rigour with the pleasure of discovery and conviviality, celebrating the city’s entire ancient heritage. The exceptional and varied programme has been designed with the general public in mind, making the most of Arles’ potential and local resources.
Under the radiant August sun, the Romans took up their summer quarters in the “Little Rome of the Gauls”, where the cadenced steps of the legionnaires, the sword thrusts of the gladiators and the applause of the jubilant spectators resounded. Tourists and Arles residents of all ages have the chance to step back in time almost two thousand years, to an era that fascinates, so close and yet so far from our own.
Arelate is also an exceptional partnership with the Peplum film festival.
