The Camargue is a territory that invites you to be active during your stay. It’s an outdoor sports destination allowing you to discover the unique natural areas of the Camargue Delta. On land, on walking trails or by bike, and on the seaside, with different watersports. Prepare to enjoy great sensations!

Watersports

On the coast of Camargue, water sports are king.

For many years now, the gliding sports have attracted kite-surfers from all over Europe to the Golfe de Beauduc or to Port Saint-Louis du Rhône. In Les Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer, the speed channel has set world records for sailing speed.

You can also experience gliding sports on sand on the large beaches of Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer or Port Saint-Louis du Rhône. Try sand yachting and discover new sensations!

By the wind

The sailing school in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and the nautical base in Port Saint-Louis du Rhône schedule courses, internships and outings. The activities are supervised by professional state-certified instructors who welcome children from the age of 5. The two sites also rent catamarans, kayaks, pedal boats, paddles, windsurfing boards or wingfoil.

Ecotourisme

  • Recreational areas in the Camargue are also protected areas. In order to preserve the spots open to gliding sports, please adopt the suitable eco-gestures.
  • Make sure you limit and manage your waste.
  • Respect the protected areas and choose your anchorage carefully.
  • Respect the dunes and vegetation.
  • On the marine reserve of the Golfe de Beauduc, anchoring is forbidden. You are only allowed to pass by.

Freshwater

On the Petit Rhône, life is as fresh as its waters. Canoeing, paddle or even pedal boats guarantee you an unusual discovery of the natural spaces along the river. Swimming skills are mandatory for these sports. Two nautical bases offer discovery tours: Kayak Vert in Sylvaréal and Manu Kayak, labeled “Valeurs Parc” at the Domaine de La Palissade.

Outdoor sports

Hiking, cycling and horse riding are the best ways to explore and discover the Camargue. Take your time, observe, stop for a swim, visit a Manade, a lighthouse … Don’t forget to bring a pair of binoculars. It will make your discoveries even more amazing.

Traditional sports

The Camargue bull race is more than a sport, it’s an art. The origin of this sport is a game that was practiced by the gardians since the Middle Ages. They catched and fought bulls. These farm games have now become a sport, a race during which the raseteur tries to catch attributes attached around the horns of the bull. In the Camargue, each manade (bulls and horse breeding farms), has cocarders: fast and nervous Camarguais bulls dedicated to this very popular sport. The season of the Camargue races includes the Trophée des As which takes place in October, either in Nîmes or in Arles. The Camargue race is practiced beyond the Camargue Delta, in part of the Languedoc region and other Provence areas.
