Developed with the friendly assistance of architect Tadao Ando, who already designed the first Lee Ufan museum on the Japanese island of Naoshima in 2010, this project is part of a strong local dynamic and reinforces Arles’ already rich cultural offering.
The Hôtel Vernon, built between the 16th and 18th centuries, is a private mansion comprising a main building structured around an interior courtyard. Lee Ufan Arles aims to be not only an exhibition center for the artist’s work, but also a place to live and to support and sponsor various artistic and cultural activities.
Lee Ufan Arles is the third major venue for the presentation of his works, after the Lee Ufan Museum in Naoshima opened in 2010 and the Espace Lee Ufan at the Busan Museum of Art opened in 2015.
