If you choose the Camargue, you are probably dreaming of a real break, vast expanses and reconnection with nature.
If you want to fully enjoy this destination, we recommend that you take your time for exploration and life-size experiences, possible throughout the year. Follow the commented trails on foot, by bike or on the back of a white Camargue horse. Follow the waterways. The Camargue offers a multitude of experiences far off the beaten tracks awakening all your senses.
On foot or by bike, the Camargue is accessible to everyone
The relief of the Camargue is characterized by the fact that there isn’t really any. This might be an asset for all visitors, both sporty and non-sporty ones, who wish to explore the region in a gentle way. You can enjoy the seaside, marshes and ponds. Bring your binoculars and make stops to observe the fauna and flora.
The Camargue Regional Natural Park proposes 14 commented trails on foot or by bike. Watch out! Some might only be suitable for hybrid bicycles or mountain bikes and not be accessible with rainy weather. The trails lead along rice fields, salines, heritage sites and nature spots which will create great memories.
Check out the trails on the Park website.
The National Agency for Biodiversity and Environment of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur also has a website at your disposal presenting trails and discovery sites.
Remember: when you stroll through this fragile territory, respect and preserve it!
The Camargue on horseback, a guaranteed change of scenery
It is not exactly known where the breed of the Camargue horse comes from, but what we do know is that it has been grazing in this region for centuries. It is a small and robust horse, inseparable from the landscapes and life of the Camargue. Gardians use it as a working horse to drive the herds of bulls. With its rather docile character, it is perfect for walking or hiking.
Many Manades and equestrian centers propose outings for an hour or a day, and even for a longer stay. Depending on your route and the equestrian center, you may have the chance to ride on the beach. Unique and supervised experiences that take you to the heart of nature, as close as possible to a refuge with stunning biodiversity.
Throughout the Camargue, equestrian centers labelized “Valeurs Parc” welcome you:

The Camargue by boat
Sailing in the Camargue, on the branches of the River Rhône is a great outing for two hours or several days. It feels like an enchanted parenthesis, an experience out of time.
The Rhône is mainly used for commercial and industrial traffic, but there are also more and more cruise ships: in Arles in particular, but also in Port Saint-Louis du Rhône. The very accessible Petit Rhône hosts several operators based in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer who offer mini-cruises to approach the Camargue from the waterside.
Find out more at the tourist offices in Arles, Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Port Saint-Louis du Rhône.
