Beyond the red colors of autumn, the landscapes of the Camargue are majestic throughout the year for the marveled eyes of visitors. During the less hot, less crowded but still bright seasons, it is a Camargue fully returned to nature that welcomes you. In autumn and winter, the Camargue is perfect for discoveries and escape trips: nature walks, cultural discoveries, equestrian strolls and gourmet getaways… you will enjoy it all!
In autumn and winter
Where and when to watch the courtship of the pink flamingos?
It is during winter time that you get the chance to observe the pink flamingos with their most beautiful colors. Every year starting at the end of Novembre, these big birds dress in their most beautiful feathers and begin their nuptial parades in search of a partner. In a beautiful regular set, males and females move in cadence by performing the greeting of the wings which are followed by curls and smoothing of the feathers with the beak. Once formed, the couples stand side by side, neck down, moving at the same pace.
When and where to watch a stunning sunset?
Savor all the nuances of the sunsets of Camargue in a perfectly flat skyline: bloodred to the west, golden to the south and pastel mauve to the east. The presence of water makes these colors even more intense. In autumn and winter you can watch the most beautiful sunsets of the Camargue.
Choose the seaside, near ponds or salt pans or climb on the terrace of the Saint-Louis Tower. An amazing show is brought to you by nature.
The awakening of the cranes
Get up before sunrise and enjoy a moment out of time: the awakening of the cranes. These migratory birds stop in the Camargue from December to late February. Watch the rise of the cranes, accompanied by a nature guide at the Marais du Viguierat. This protected natural site also welcomes you in January and February for the dance of the ducks, in March for the nesting of the white storks, in April and May for the song of the Eurasian bittern.
The Guides naturalistes propose theme visits throughout the year. Check them out!
