Today, the Rh\u00f4ne still remains one of the main actors in the economic life of the Delta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its freshwaters desalinate the land and make it suitable for crops farming. It has also been an essential trade route to the Mediterranean since Roman times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The river harbor of Arles still serves some 30 European and Mediterranean sea links per day and transits more than 500,000 tonnes of goods every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">River tourism<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Arles and Port Saint-Louis du Rh\u00f4ne are well-known for waterway tourism. The Grand Rh\u00f4ne and the Petit Rh\u00f4ne are both navigable and will take you to an unusual discovery of Camargue. <a href=\"https:\/\/destination-camargue.fr\/en\/experiences-a-vivre\/experience\/taking-your-time\/\">Taking your time<\/a>, living astonishing nature experience, discovering a territory a different way\u2026 river tourism is a perfect example for slow tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you travel on the waterways, you will discover the many facets of this region\u2019s rich culture, heritage and gastronomy. You can find the service providers for cruises or houseboat rentals at the tourist offices. Renting is possible for an hour, a day or for a longer stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Along the river at your pace<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In an atmosphere with accents of Provence, walk along the towpaths and enjoy the sweetness of life on the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">By bike<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viarhona.com\/itineraire\/25-viarhona-d-arles-a-port-saint-louis-du-rhone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>ViaRh\u00f4na<\/strong><\/a> between Arles and Port Saint-Louis du Rh\u00f4ne. This bike route will take you from the Van Gogh bridge in Arles to your destination. After the effort, take a swim at Napoleon beach in Port Saint-Louis du Rh\u00f4ne. You will ride 50 km (3.5 hours) along the green routes of the Grand Rh\u00f4ne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On foot or by bike<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parc-camargue.fr\/getlibrarypublicfile.php\/bd0f481e519ba9a940b365fa8ff39e72\/parc-camargue\/_\/collection_library_fr\/201600140\/0001\/N11_salins_stlouis.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">route from Salin-de-Giraud to Port Saint-Louis du Rh\u00f4ne<\/a> takes you along the banks of the Rh\u00f4ne, which you will cross by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smtdr.fr\/bacs-de-barcarin\/horaires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barcarin ferry<\/a>. This transport is free for pedestrians and cyclists. The route will lead you to the Saint-Louis tower.
