PICTET PRIZE
\nALFREDO JAAR
\nAlfredo Jaar, a Chilean artist, architect and filmmaker renowned for a committed body of work that questions images, memory and the world’s urgencies, is honored at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Antique as the winner of the eleventh Prix Pictet for his series The End, devoted to Utah’s Great Salt Lake. Performing alone on stage, Jaar looks back on this series and offers an insight into his recent projects, taking us beyond photography into a powerful reflection on ecology, perception and the power of images.<\/p>\n
MING SMITH
\nA major figure in American photography, Ming Smith explores black interiority, memory and spirituality through a profoundly experimental body of work. A member of the Kamoinge collective since 1972, in 1979 she became the first black photographer whose work entered the MoMA collections. Today, her work is exhibited in major international museums.<\/p>\n
PARK CHAN-WOOK
\nPresented for the first time in Europe by Lee Ufan Arles, Park Chan-wook’s photographic work reveals a freer, more contemplative side of the Korean filmmaker. Echoing this exhibition, Rencontres d’Arles invites him to the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Antique. An exceptional presence, it’s an opportunity to explore his approach to images, with their attention to everyday details, their suspension of time and their view of the world.<\/p>\n

\nTo mark the 30th anniversary of the Maison Europ\u00e9enne de la Photographie (MEP), Rencontres d’Arles is inviting this major institution to present its collections to the public in a new way. British photographer Olivia Arthur proposes a fictional narrative based on a personal selection of the MEP’s 24,000 works, representative of French and international creativity from 1950 to the present day.<\/p>\n
