In April 1975, the sudden fall of Phnom Penh and then Saigon took the world by surprise. On the ground, reporters had to decide in a matter of hours whether to flee or stay – sometimes at the cost of their lives. The exhibition, designed by Gary Knight (VII Foundation) and Jon Swain, features over 100 photographs, personal objects (including a camera by Françoise Demulder) and rare archives. Designed by Ziyah Gafic, the exhibition immerses visitors in the final days of the conflict through the eyes of Vietnamese, Cambodian and international photographers. Recounting an era when journalism influenced history, the exhibition celebrates both anonymous and famous reporters, including 31 Cambodians killed by the Khmer Rouge, and reminds us that documenting war often involves the ultimate sacrifice.
